Gurdeep Pandher dances Banghra and Joy has become one of Yukon’s most active ambassadors with his Bhangra videos. He joins Shane Hewitt for a chat on spreading positivity across the internet.
He is a gift to Canadians. Wait, no, Gurdeep Pandher dances Banghra and Joy is a gift to the world! Bhangra is the traditional dance of Punjab. It is native to the Punjabi nation. A long time ago, Punjabi-Sikh farmers started to use different aspects of farming to create a dance form. This farming influenced style of dance celebrates food-growing, harvesting and relationship to the land, which they later called Bhangra.
I love this quote Gurdeep’s website:
Sometimes we have to turn all the electronic devices off to disconnect from the outside world so that we can connect with nature and dance to open our hearts to the fullest. In addition to learning about the Sikh faith, I do attempt to say (with his kind help) Gurdeep’s name properly. AND Ryan O’Donnell and Brendan Kelly both try as well. Let’s just say that Brendan is far more natural than we are!
I hope you enjoy my conversation with Gurdeep, as much as I did.
