Shane Hewitt speaks with Dr. Hillary Maddin of Carleton University about a newly identified 315‑million‑year‑old fossil discovered in Nova Scotia, one of the few regions preserving early land vertebrates. CT scans revealed an unusually large microsaur with complex, interlocking teeth—evidence of plant‑eating behaviour earlier than previously thought. Maddin also explains why these fossils are often found inside ancient tree trunks and what the discovery means for understanding early terrestrial life.
