LaGuardia Air Canada crash investigators are working through wreckage after the crash, and the question at the centre of it is a direct one. The plane landed. Why was there a fire truck in its path?
Two Air Canada Jazz pilots died in the crash. Passengers helped each other escape and multiple remain in hospital. The NTSB and Canadian Transportation Safety Board cut through the roof of the aircraft to recover the flight data and cockpit voice recorders, both now in Washington for analysis. It will take days to piece together the full sequence.
Runway incursions are among aviation’s most studied failure points, and this one happened at one of America’s busiest airports. The recorders will speak. The question of how this happened has only just been asked.
