NEW – Five Hundred Dollars to Find Out the Dog Is Fat and Fine

Good News Tuesday dog vet Easter story: Cora the golden retriever kept the household up all night on Good Friday, panting and licking her lips and refusing to settle. By five in the morning, Ryan O’Donnell and his fiancée were in the emergency vet waiting room so still with exhaustion that the motion-sensor lights turned off. The dog came back fine. The bill was five hundred dollars. The vet fat-shamed her. There is now a feeding plan and an activity plan and Ryan O’Donnell is calling all of this good news.

What does it mean when your almost-twenty-year-old’s car breaks down on the side of the road and she handles it completely on her own? Used the roadside assistance. Got the tow. Her boyfriend, a farmer in Alberta, handed over a cleaned-up registered truck for a couple of weeks without being asked. As a parent, watching that happen is the good news. It took a long time to arrive at that moment.

The trick for separation anxiety in dogs: give them a t-shirt that smells like you. That is free and it works and it came out of a five hundred dollar vet visit so you are welcome.
