The Confetti Is for the Bank. Not for You.

Gamification of banking feels like your financial institution finally started rooting for you. The stars when you hit a savings goal. The confetti when you place a trade. It feels like winning. That feeling is the product.

What does it actually cost to get that dopamine hit every time you open the app? Robinhood built the confetti model during the pandemic and people loved it. They also traded more, felt better about it, and did worse. That is not a coincidence. The platform makes money on every trade. You make money by not trading. Those two things are pointed in opposite directions and only one of them comes with a celebration.

The strategy that wins has no app, no banner, no points system behind it. It is boring on purpose. That is the part nobody is building a notification for.
