Trail camera surveillance has become a break-and-enter tool, and the reason it works is the same reason it is hard to detect. Mark Mendelson says criminals are not parking on your street anymore. They are already in your tree.
Camouflaged trail cameras mounted at eye level give burglars everything the old stakeout provided with almost none of the risk. Mark Mendelson points to recent discoveries in York Region and Halton Region as evidence the tactic is active in Canadian neighbourhoods. A camera positioned on the right tree captures your comings and goings, your kids’ schedules, whether a dog is in the house, and exactly how long the property sits empty. The foliage coming in this spring makes them harder to spot. Mendelson says a slow walk around your front yard every few days is the best defence.
