Comedy documentaries offer another way into the jokes: getting curious about who made them. Bob Addision brings his enthusiasm for Martin Mull, Norm Macdonald and SCTV, with reasons to look beyond the familiar clips. Could the story behind a performer change what you notice next time?
A supporting player turns out to have more going on than Bob realised. A comedian known for playing with the truth leaves questions about how his own life will be told. These are recognisable faces, but recognition is not the same as knowing their stories.
For SCTV, the pleasure also lies in remembering just how strange those characters could be. Bob revisits the fictional television world that helped shape his humour. Before the later films and polished public personas, what were these performers getting away with?
