Computers vs Mobile
Computer (laptop or desktop computer) is preferred. Smart phones also work, if you can place them in a fashion that avoids wobbly holding, and bumping for accidental extra noise.
Apps & Software
Software
No extra software is necessary, although Riverside does offer apps for Mac and PC, as well as iOS and Android that will make your experience even more seamless.
Computer via Web Browser
Use Google Chrome (preferred) or Microsoft Edge. Other browsers will not work.
Download Chrome here: https://www.google.com/chrome/
Computer via Riverside App
Riverside offers a Mac App for Mac users here: https://riverside.fm/mac-app
Mobile Device via Riverside App
Riverside offers an iOS App for Apple Users, and an Android App for Android users here: https://riverside.fm/mobile
Headphones & Mics
Headphones or Earbuds
To avoid echo, please wear wired headphones or earbuds. Bluetooth devices can cause issues with recording sync.
Microphone (optional)
If you have an external mic, great! If not, your built-in microphone will work just fine. Please try to be in a quiet room.
Joining my Recording Studio
When the lobby feature is turned on in Riverside.fm, guests enter a virtual waiting room before joining the recording studio. Here’s how it works step by step:
Click the Guest Link
When it’s time for our session, click the Riverside.fm link I’ve sent you. Your link was provided in your booking email and calendar appointment.Enter Your Name and Check Settings
You’ll be prompted to enter your name. Then you can test and select your microphone, camera, and headphones.Enter the Lobby
Once you’re set up, you’ll click “Go to Lobby.”
This puts you in a virtual waiting room while I finish setup or chat with others.Wait to Be Let In
I’ll see your name in the lobby and admit you into the studio when we’re ready to start. You don’t need to do anything else—just stay in the lobby window and hang tight.Recording Starts in the Studio
Once you’re admitted, we’ll do a quick sound check, and then we’ll start the recording. You’ll be clearly notified when recording begins.
After the Recording
WAIT! You’ll see an upload meter when we finish recording. Your device is uploading the video. You don’t need to do anything. Riverside automatically uploads your recording when we finish.
If for any reason you do accidentally leave the app, just re-open it. And if you’re on a browser, if you leave before the upload is complete, no worries! Just re-open the same browser and go to this link https://riverside.fm/upload and the upload will automatically finish.
