A pair of vintage nightstands from Smiths Falls came with more than just furniture. Tucked inside was a decades-old handwritten note prescribing a medication for restless leg syndrome, and it sent Shane Hewitt down a research hole that turned into an entire segment.
The note references quinine sulfate capsules, once widely prescribed off-label for nighttime leg cramps before doctors realized the side effects were far too dangerous for the payoff. From there, the search moves into what actually works today, from iron therapy to simple things like heat and movement, without ever recommending anyone try what that old note suggested.
There is also a preview of a wild sailing story still to come, involving unidentified lights, twelve foot waves, and a torn sail on Lake Ontario.
