AI resume screening is not the reason your application disappeared. But what’s actually blocking you is almost worse.
Shelley Billinghurst surveyed Canadian employers and found over 80% are not using AI to filter candidates at the front end. Kim Wilkinson asked nearly 2,000 job seekers the same question from the other direction. Almost 100% believe AI is actively working against them. The real culprit is screener questions inside applicant tracking systems, and the volume problem those systems have helped create.
HR has intentionally disabled features that would notify applicants their resume was viewed or send an automatic rejection, according to Shelley Billinghurst. That silence drives job seekers to apply to more jobs, which makes it harder for qualified candidates to be seen. Kim Wilkinson says AI-generated applications are adding to the noise. Shelley Billinghurst says a candidate nurture campaign could break the cycle.
