Seeking Soulmates – Only 8% Are Still In the Pool

The dating recession in Canada is real, and you are probably not surprised. A new Nanos poll for the Globe and Mail found only 8% of Canadians are actively dating right now. You have seen the same faces on the apps for eight to ten years. You have read the same lines. You have sent the copy-paste message that got a laugh last time and watched it land flat this time. At some point, you either keep swiping or you keep your peace.

What does it feel like to realize the person giving you one-word answers might think you are great and is just saving you for later? That you are in a pocket, on a list, worth their time eventually but not right now? The small talk that works at a party, listening for cues, reading the room, that skill does not translate to an app built on yes or no. And so the people who are good at real rooms stopped going into digital ones.

The stigma of being single is gone. The singles are thriving. The people most bothered by the 8% statistic are probably the ones already in relationships.
